Minimizing Expected Broadcast Time in Unreliable Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
When communication lines in an interconnection network are prone to random transmission failures, the time required to broadcast a message throughout the network from a given source vertex is uncertain. We view this broadcast time in such unreliable networks as a random variable dependent on the strategy employed by individual nodes to inform their neighbours, and we seek to describe those strategies which minimize its expected value. Two major results are the complete characterization of optimal deterministic broadcast strategies in unreliable star networks, and proof that each arborescence network has a unique optimal randomized strategy. Our introductory treatment of this problem combines aspects of Markov chains, convexity theory, and the coupon collector’s problem. We hope and expect these tools to prove valuable as work continues on several open problems.

Scheduling Policies for Minimizing Age of Information in Broadcast Wireless Networks
We consider a wireless broadcast network with a base station sending time-sensitive information to a number of clients through unreliable channels. The Age of Information (AoI), namely the amount of time that elapsed since the most recently delivered packet was generated, captures the freshness of the information. We formulate a discrete-time decision problem to find a transmission scheduling p...
متن کاملBroadcast Routing in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks: A Particle Swarm optimization Approach
While routing in multi-hop packet radio networks (static Ad-hoc wireless networks), it is crucial to minimize power consumption since nodes are powered by batteries of limited capacity and it is expensive to recharge the device. This paper studies the problem of broadcast routing in radio networks. Given a network with an identified source node, any broadcast routing is considered as a directed...
متن کاملVacation model for Markov machine repair problem with two heterogeneous unreliable servers and threshold recovery
Markov model of multi-component machining system comprising two unreliable heterogeneous servers and mixed type of standby support has been studied. The repair job of broken down machines is done on the basis of bi-level threshold policy for the activation of the servers. The server returns back to render repair job when the pre-specified workload of failed machines is build up. The first (seco...
متن کاملDistributed Incremental Least Mean-Square for Parameter Estimation using Heterogeneous Adaptive Networks in Unreliable Measurements
Adaptive networks include a set of nodes with adaptation and learning abilities for modeling various types of self-organized and complex activities encountered in the real world. This paper presents the effect of heterogeneously distributed incremental LMS algorithm with ideal links on the quality of unknown parameter estimation. In heterogeneous adaptive networks, a fraction of the nodes, defi...
متن کاملReliable Gossip Zone for Real-Time Communications in Wireless Sensor Networks
Gossip is a well-known protocol which was proposed to implement broadcast service with a high reliability in an arbitrarily connected network of sensor nodes. The probabilistic techniques employed in gossip have been used to address many challenges which are caused by flooding in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, very little work has yet been done on real-time wireless sensor networks w...
